Hi Lola, thank you for your very sweet thoughts. I also love the way music encodes memories. And I still love Depeche Mode!

Even though I am younger than you (not by much---I turned 40 this year. Evil, that.), I feel so many common threads, so many things I relate to. And even more, I love getting to 'know' you and how you share yourself with us.

I LOVE the literary references...that thread speaks to me in very personal ways. Our passion for literature is and how it has woven into our lives is a big connection for me.
And I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Depeche Mode, to this day. (They're actually still making great albums.) In my teen years, they were big in my life, and I'm still a fan. (and the Cars "All Mixed Up" was one of my favorite songs) Isn't it funny how music can transport/time travel?

Oh, and those last two sentences---tears me up. Lovely.

Thank you, Susan, for sharing.

Love,
Lola
PS--Thanks for pimping me on your sidebar. I'm truly grateful. *smiles*

Susan, your story is kind of astonishing. I cannot imagine the force of will and focus it took to make your way through all of this. I look forward to more posts.

How unique these days to see a photo of Joan Crawford (carefully lighted per her instructions as usual) so prominently displayed. She, along with Betty Davis and Barbara Stanwyck were my 3 heroine queens growing up.

Yes, I have fabulous ex husbands. Being fabulous hasn't got anything to do with whether a marriage will work. That's a nice thought Angie about art and beauty being mine. Thanks for visiting.

I like that you have positive things to say about your ex-husbands. And that last paragraph of your essay sums it up so well. Regardless of how it all turned out, art and beauty were yours, even if the time with them was short.
