Jack’s photo shoot in Paris was un grand succès, despite the rain and technical difficulties setting up camera equipment at various metro stations and other outdoor venues. The timing was perfect–there’s nothing like Paris at Christmas! And Sophie looked gorgeous in Yuri’s romantic, feminine designs photographed against different Parisian street scenes.
The highlight of the trip, from Jack’s perspective, was a last-minute invitation Friday afternoon to assist one of Yuri’s photographer friends in photographing the debutantes before the Hôtel de Crillon’s annual Bal des Débutantes (Debutante Ball) the next evening. Jack couldn’t believe his luck: a sneak preview of the debutante dresses, including this stunning Chanel dress worn by his new favorite blogger at Sea of Shoes.
Holly normally would have been out of her mind with jealousy, but instead was equally enthralled with her own adventure taking a master class in make-up artistry at Fleurimon, 5 Rue Decamps, Paris, the point being to take her skills acquired from several previous make-up classes to the level required for haute couture photography. She’s been urging Jack to break into fashion photography in order to build his reputation, but also as a means of pursuing her own secret passion for creative cosmetics and make-up artistry.
Holly wants to create an organic make-up line using products and recipes from suppliers like MakingCosmetics.com. Surfing the web and visiting cosmetic displays, especially in Paris, has given her lots of beauty packaging ideas for busy, practical-minded models seeking a clean look on camera, like these transparent L’Oréal containers for the Bare Nuturale line. She is researching beauty packaging suppliers and has contracted with Sarah’s significant other Julie, a graphic designer who specializes in packaging, to create a custom packaging design for the products. It will be fun to assemble the products in QuickBooks!
Holly did ask Jack about the $25,000 loan to Heather. It seems he did agree to defer interest payments for one year, and thereafter expects to be paid interest and principal on a monthly basis, though nothing was put in writing. Jack feels confident that the home will appreciate quickly (Holly is not so sure) and Heather will be able to pay back the full loan balance and accrued interest from equity if nothing else. That is if she flips the house, which is looking less likely. He’s not concerned about the debt in the short term because his business is really starting to take off and they aren’t ready to purchase a home anyway.
At the moment Holly is so blissfully happy being in Paris, looking at wonderful coats like these and dreaming about her make-up line that it’s hard to feel overly concerned about Jack’s financial decisions. C’est la vie!

As I read your “blog-opera” I’m reminiscing about when I was younger and my husband was just starting his business. We didn’t get to travel to Europe or exotic locations, but that initial giddiness of starting something that’s your own was really intoxicating. I love the story, I’ll keep checking back!
